Not only is derma e® committed to producing the highest-quality, most effective skin care possible, we at derma e® also believe that we have the social responsibility to try and help those in need both locally and globally. To touch lives globally, we have formed The Paraguay Project: our effort to support the people of Paraguay.

How Can You Help?
Your purchase of authentic handcrafted Paraguayan Spiderweb Lace will provide income directly to the hardworking Paraguayan women and their families. All of the profits from our Spiderweb Lace sales will be donated to three not-for-profit organizations in Paraguay; Global...Infancia works to protect the rights of children in Paraguay and Guyra Paraguay fights to protect birds and their habitats, including the beautiful, bio-diverse Paraguayan rainforest and pantanal (the wetlands) and Clyde E. Bay Foundation helps rural poor young women and men get an education and find living wage employment.

Why Paraguay?
Sondra Miles, the daughter of Linda Miles (vice president of derma e®) and herself a member of the derma e® family, served as a Peace Corps volunteer in a rural community in Paraguay teaching environmental and health education. While living in Paraguay, Sondra saw and felt the needs of the Paraguayan people for educational opportunities, sustainable incomes, and empowerment, especially empowerment of women and youth. Additionally, Sondra observed the rapid destruction of the forest and other natural resources upon which much of the country is dependent and felt the need for these resources to be protected for future generations.
In creating The Project Paraguay, derma e® is trying to respond to those needs and create awareness about the struggles of the Paraguayan people. Our wish is to provide families with a sustainable income, allowing them to better care for themselves and their children, and to also support organizations that work to develop Paraguay. derma e® purchases the Spiderweb Lace at a fair price from women’s groups who regularly sell their crafts in the markets in Asunción (the capital of Paraguay). All of the proceeds from selling the Spiderweb Lace wil be donated back to two Paraguayan non-profit organizations. We have chosen one organization that works to protect the rights of children plus an organization dedicated to preserving the environment. Our goal is to do our part to help the future of Paraguay.
Guyra Paraguay
In Guaraní, one of the official languages of Paraguay, “guyra” means bird. Guyra Paraguay, a non-profit organization, focuses on birds in their quest to defend and protect the bio-diversity of Paraguay with the goal of assuring that there is space and resources for future generations. Guyra conducts scientific research, does a variety of biodiversity conservation projects as well as environmental education campaigns, and promotes sustainable development. They work to protect the environment as a way to help improve the quality of life for Paraguayans.

Global Infancia
Global…Infancia works to protect the rights of children and adolescents in Paraguay, fighting to prevent trafficking of children and adolescents, child pornography, and child abuse as well as helping to provide educational and empowerment opportunities for children and youth. They work with the Paraguayan government to promote legislation and public policies that defend the rights of children and youth. They promote citizen activism and participation, and they provide development and educational programs for kids, adolescents, government workers, and other organizations and institutions involved in caring for kids. The mission of Global…Infancia is to create a better environment for Paraguay’s children and youth today, creating a better Paraguay tomorrow.
Founded in 1999 in Paraguay, two United States citizens, Clyde E. Bay and Celmira Bay used their life savings to start the Clyde E. Bay Foundation, an organization helping rural poor young women and men get an education and find living wage. Currently, the foundation has a full service medical clinic and pharmacy that provides medical services at little or no cost. Additionally, dedicated to supporting women professionally and ensuring appropriate medical attention for females in the community, the foundation also has two technical nursing schools preparing graduates to service their communities in Paraguay as well as encouraging students to pursue a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. The Clyde E. Bay Foundation continues to expand their service to humanity by working on projects such as opening an in-patient pavilion and initiating a water supply and tank to provide water to 200 families near the clinic. In 2008, donations from derma e® built a nursing school with full accreditation from the Paraguayan government.
